What is Suboxone

Suboxone is the best known brand name for a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, which are medications used to treat opioid addiction, also known, more euphemistically, as Opioid Use Disorder  Buprenorphine is the main ingredient of suboxone.  Buprenorphine is an opioid, like heroin, oxycodone, or methadone, but with important differences.  It is a replacement for and blocker of other opioids; it prevents withdrawl while at the same time it blocks the effects of heroin or oxycodone.  This makes it effective in helping people get off other opioids, and stay off.  The other ingredient, naloxone, is there to prevent Suboxone from having an effect when injected, so discourages abuse of suboxone.
